Long time no chat, my friends, family, and people I do not know. It’s been a hot minute, but I have returned. I hope to return to some normality with posting more often on this, especially given I’ve ghosted my Substack on multiple occasions. Let me bring you up to speed regarding my absence, things I’ve done, and material I’d like to write about in the future!
Well, for starters…my last post was about sound healing. There will be a part II, where I dive into the intricacies of my own experience. I will be covering the cello case company Acase, describing my experience and giving advice on how to go about ordering your case. I will talk about chamber music, favorite recordings, discuss cello music, my tips and tricks for the freelance life, and more (i think). I will write about Moishe Weinberg as well, because he’s cool, and that’s been my focus for a long time.
Speaking of Weinberg…I’m a doctor! Yes, you read that correct. Since my last posting in September, I have ( as of March 25th) attained the rank of Doctor. Seeing a tuition bill for one credit really got my gears going. I finished my paper, an in depth look at Weinberg first 12 preludes, gave my lecture recital, studied my butt off for the orals, and passed (hence the photo of my dog congratulating me in the accompanying picture). I also tried my first professional orchestra audition for the experience. As you can see, very busy time. I think we can all agree we are relieved, especially my parents haha. Now it’s a real full blown transition into professional life again….though nothing has changed, and finishing school forever hasn’t sunk in yet. I suppose I will continue with my path and try to get a more permanent gig (if you’re reading this and need a cellist, hit me up).
Either way, I hope that with this degree I will have more opportunity to expand into different circles, have a better chance at work, and continue my deep dive on Weinberg. Ultimately, I’d like to continue learning about music, gaining more rep under my belt (because there’s so much to learn and I have so much to learn), and figuring out how to perform more. I want to experiment with programming, put on some solo cello recitals with works less performed interwoven with some standard stuff, and maybe go on a sonata kick (because I severely lack in this category). Generally, I have to pick a direction and head that way, hardcore. This world won’t give anyone opportunities unless you’re in the right place and time, know people, or have endless money (or do other things I shan’t say on this feed). I shall create my own, so stay tuned!
Anyways, that’s my little update. Next post will be about the Acase! The Do’s, Don’ts, and…meh, anything else that comes to mind!
Cheers,
Mark
